Bird Management & Exclusion

Is Your Business Experiencing Bird Pest Problems?

At McCloud Services, we’ve encountered many unfortunate situations in which pest birds have caused structural damage to a facility, destroyed property, contaminated products, and posed health risks to employees and customers, and to the community at large. Our Bird Management & Exclusion Services are specifically designed and professionally executed to resolve these issues created by difficult pest birds, such as pigeons, seagulls, and starlings.

McCloud Services Offers Effective Bird Management & Exclusion Services

Designed to resolve pest bird problems for all businesses, from complex production facilities to small retail establishments, our bird management consists of a multi-faceted plan implemented in stages and flexible in terms of bird population behavior and time of year. Sometimes, simply altering the environmental conditions of the property can make your business less pest bird friendly but in other more complex situations, managing pest birds must be viewed as a puzzle. Each method of management alone has a particular function and role that may have a large impact locally, but not within the large scope of the facility. However, when combined, as with a puzzle, the greatest impact within the facility can be seen.

All About OvoControl® P – “Birth Control” for Birds

OvoControl is a ready-to-use bait that interferes with the reproduction of treated birds, causing the population to decline. This effective and humane technology is especially useful for managing pigeon flocks without having to resort to poisons and their associated risks. Registered by EPA (Reg. No. 80224-1) and approved in all 50 states, OvoControl is ideal for large areas where some pigeons can be tolerated but where a substantially reduced population is desired. OvoControl is non-hazardous and is advocated by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Audubon and Peregrine Fund.

Pigeons breed rapidly – just five mating pairs can produce up to 400 pigeons in only two years. Fortunately, the life-span of urban pigeons is short, limited to just 2-3 years. When applied according to label directions, OvoControl interferes with egg hatchability. Since no new birds are hatching, the population of birds declines naturally and continuously. Field studies show a reduction of approximately 50%, annually. Recently collected data at a monitored site in San Diego reflected an 88% decline over 28 months. Baiting can begin at any time.

OvoControl only has a contraceptive effect in birds and has no secondary effects in birds of prey. OvoControl is considered a pesticide and care should be taken to avoid administration to non-target birds and other animals.

Large size and scope are common characteristics of OvoControl sites and applications. Pigeons are very mobile pests and can move around freely from one area to the next. Therefore, a pigeon control program based on OvoControl has exceptional utility in large areas – from shopping centers and school campuses to towns and cities – where traditional bird control methods may not be appropriate or cost effective.

Deterring Pest Bird Activity

To discourage pest birds, consider eliminating the conditions that attract pigeons and other nuisance birds to your business. To help eliminate general bird friendly conditions in and around your commercial facility, we suggest these tips:

  • Remove food remnants and other material that birds may feed on from the vicinity.

  • Replace or cover broken windows to help keep birds from entering buildings.

  • Install screen doors to allow for air flow instead of allowing doorways to remain open to the elements. These can be moved or removed as necessary.

  • Install permanent exclusion methods to help make your facility less attractive to birds. These are normally one time installations and continue to work over a long period of time with very little maintenance required.

  • Keep trees well trimmed around the property.

  • Eliminate roosting, nesting, and resting areas whenever possible.
